The Greater New Bedford Garden Club offers a variety of committees, each dedicated to serving the community through gardening, conservation, and education.

The Community Beautification and Historic Preservation Committee works to enhance local gardens at important historical sites, while the Garden Therapy Committee partners with assisted living and nursing homes for gardening activities. The Exhibition Committee provides workshops and design presentations for club members, and the Horticulture Committee hosts an annual plant sale and educational events.

Several committees are dedicated to broader community impacts. The Conservation, Recycling, and Reclamation Committee promotes environmental awareness, and the Scholarship Committee awards scholarships for students pursuing fields related to gardening and conservation. The Ways and Means Committee raises funds for various initiatives, and the Membership Committee coordinates club membership. Lastly, the Program Committee collaborates with other committees to offer enriching events, while the Publicity Committee maintains the club’s website and social media pages.

Community Beautification and Historic Preservation Committee

The Community Beautification and Historic Preservation Committee is dedicated to bringing the Beauty of Gardens to important or Historical sites in the Greater New Bedford area.

From Meditation Gardens at the Acushnet Council on Aging to window boxes at the New Bedford Art Museum and everything in between.

Conservation, Recycling and Reclamation Committee

The Conservation, Recycling and Reclamation Committee shall promote interest in conservation, shall inform club members about the need for reclamation and recycling of all materials, in order to protect our environment against pollution and conserve our diminishing natural resources. This committee shall be responsible for one program a year.

Exhibition Committee

The Exhibition Committee arranges two design presentations for club members to enjoy. Workshops give members the opportunity to learn together and to share their creations with the all of the members.

Garden Therapy Committee

The Garden Therapy Committee shall initiate community involvement by partnering with the Activity Directors in two or more Greater New Bedford Assisted Living or Nursing Homes. The programs will include creating floral arrangements or various greenery displays.

Horticulture Committee

The Horticulture Committee shall present one program and conduct one exhibit and one workshop to teach and encourage Horticultural interest. The committee hosts the clubs the annual plant sale which is the clubs most popular and successful event.

Hospitality Committee

The Hospitality Committee hosts Themed Monthly Meetings by providing attendees with light, wholesome refreshments and creative table arrangements. Our chairperson supervises each event and develops a calendar of volunteers to arrange each event always promoting a welcoming environment that encourages the sharing of ideas and comradery.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee shall select two scholarship recipients from the greater New Bedford area. Scholarships are available to students whose interests are in the fields of Horticulture, Landscape, Architecture, Conservation, Environmental Sciences and related fields.

Ways and Means Committee

The Ways and Means Committee is active throughout the year raising funds for programs, scholarships and member events. The committee also assists the Horticulture Committee with the club’s annual plant sale which is the club’s most popular event.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee shall notify the President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary and Yearbook Chairman of new and resigning members, record attendance and pass out name tags at meetings.

Program Committee

The Program Committee will join the chairs of Conservation, Recycling and Reclamation, Horticulture, Exhibition, and Ways and Means to plan programs that teach and inspire the members with a variety of speakers and presentations.

Publicity Committee

The Publicity Committee shall air the activities of the Club through the press or in any other way authorized by the executive board. The committee shall be in charge of maintaining the club’s website and social media pages.
